Young Teachers

On Friday I am off to lovely Brighton for the Young Teacher Conference with the NUT! I am very excited and not just because I can still (just!) be considered a young teacher :)

The conference is about shaping our future and the impact teachers can have on their own future careers and the profession as a whole. I am very excited about this as I think too many people just accept when things are a bit rubbish and get on with it!

I will update once I have been.

Is anyone else going?

Five for Friday 19/02/16

Usually I love to see Fridays! Today.... not so much. It is the end of half term, but don't cry too much only 4 weeks to Easter! (yes I'm rounding up!)

So I am once again taking part in doodlebugs linky party Five for Friday. Where I let you all know the  5 important things I have been up to this week.

Here are the five things I have been up to this week:

So Sunday was Valentine's day, the day of romance. My wonderful other half did not disappoint and took me up to London to the very posh Mayfair Hotel for a lovely meal in the Mayfair Kitchen and then onto a screening of When Harry met Sally, in the hotel's private cinema, with champagne! Shame we can't do this things all the time. I felt very spoilt :)

.... and yes I am bragging just a little bit...

This week I have been getting drawn into online rants about teachers selling resources. I really don't see why I should be called immoral for putting time, effort and money into a very useful project and then selling it for a reasonable price.

I am fully aware that arguing on the internet is pointless, you are never going to change the mind of the other person and they aren't going to bring you around to their point of view so I shouldn't get drawn in, but sometimes it is difficult not to try and defend yourself!

As it has been half term I have been trying to get on top of things.... Yeah that was never going to happen was it? I emptied out the under-the-stairs shoe cupboard, which is a tiny little cupboard but still managed to collect 3 bin bags of shoes to throw away and still have loads to try and squeeze back in there! It took ages but mainly because I kept stopping to get excited and try on shoes I had forgotten I owned.

This week I have been putting my half term to good use and creating more products for my stores. I have been really into math lessons recently so I have a lot of new multiplication lessons up. Check out my whole week of multiplication lesson which I am very pleased with here on TPT and TES

And lastly I am getting excited and ready for Secret Cinema!!!! I am going on Sunday and I am really really excited! If you have never heard of secret cinema please, please, please google it right now. It is the most immersive film experience you will ever get and I am going on Sunday! So I will try and update you all about it after I have been.

Sorry that's all I can say about that really..... It's a secret!

Have a Fabulous weekend everyone :)

Take some time off!

Happy half term (those that are on half term, those that aren’t sorry…) I am off school for a whole week. I promised myself I would actually take some time off this week.

I don’t know about you but sometimes taking time off is actually harder than it sounds. The never ending to-do list is still sitting at the back of my mind and the relaxing thing I am trying to do becomes a chore because I’m not getting to the things I am supposed to be doing! (Yes I am aware I sound crazy, and we haven’t even gotten to the crazy part yet!)

I have found my solution to this. I write my to-do list for the day and I actually decide that part of my day will involve relaxation of some kind. So I will add to my list something I really want to do and make it, not the top priority, but definitely up there. For example today along with tidying the house, writing this blog post and planning next week’s SPaG I am going to sit down and read the new book for at least an hour. I cannot wait to open it up and get to it; but I know that if I just stay in bed and read I will spend the whole time feeling guilty about my list so now it is on the list, read for an hour has become a to-do. Now when it comes, I will be pleased to get started on it! I realise this makes me a bit crazy but it is almost like I am giving myself permission to do something enjoyable.

 My new book:

Am I alone in this or does anyone else have trouble switching off and actually doing things just for fun without feeling bad about it?

Chinese New Year is coming

One week today (February 8th) is Chinese New Year. I think this time of year is a very exciting and useful way to introduce children to other cultures in the classroom.

With this in mind, these new Chinese New Year workbooks are great for teaching the kiddos about the traditions and the celebrations of Chinese New Year.

These 32 page booklets have great activities and fun writing opportunities to make the learning fun!

Children can learn some Chinese words

Write their own exciting Zodiac story

Some time work linked to traditions

Opportunity to explain Chinese New Year in their own words.

It is such a fun way to bring Chinese New Year into the classroom.
